Why make a decision? If you’ve decided to eat healthier, is it more than likely that you will? Or will it just push you to eat whatever and whenever you want- or is that a decision also? Can you contradict yourself? Or does it mean that we are always faced with making many decisions?
Isn’t it no wonder that most people do not like making decisions?! “F*CK... Can’t he just decide where to take me to dinner without having to ask me for an opinion, I will eat whatever, just freaking decide!”, thought everyone at one point in their life. Well maybe almost everybody. But many of us enjoy a non-confrontational life, a life that can be peaceful without the pressures of having to decide what to say, what to wear, what perfume to wear, or how you should act. This is a very natural way of being! Or is it? Let’s imagine the people of the High Tech generation having most of their things done for them by a smart phone and or an iPad or a computer- how do they deal with decision making?
Making a decision is giving yourself permission to make a choice, to have a voice, to matter, to be counted, to have value, to be present, and to have energy! Even the most hardened gang members show these traits to a loyal group of thugs who have claim to have your back no matter what. So a decision can have negative consequences and can also have positive consequences. If you decide to do things from empowering people in a positive way, it is more than likely that the consequences will be positive. If you decide to have a negative impact on people, which makes me wonder if people deliberately know or are fully aware of the damage that they are causing by the decisions that they make.
For example, as a school administrator and school counselor, I reported many incidents to CPS especially the ones in where I knew that students lives were being compromised in a negative way. What was interesting to know that no matter how harsh the situation was, the goal of CPS was to reunite children with their parents and or guardians. Their goal was to educate in order for them to make better decisions about how to raise their children. So everyone is always learning about life and becoming aware of how they can improve their decision making based on the people, situations, and their state of mind at the time of making that decision.
So if you have decided to eat healthier and you do it for one or two days then you find yourself at the last bite of a double double- don’t bash yourself too much cause you can always decide to make a change. That decision will soon hold and you will do it because you believe in your own power and you are doing it for you in order to impact others in a positive way. That’s it- we are here to serve others, and if we continuously learn about our own inner MaxPower, we can better serve those we love, people we come in contact with and ourselves!
