Warnings about the dangers of vaping and or smoking marijuana continue to grow as the country continues to legalize it from state to state. The book above, is one of several youth empowerment books that was written by myself and my co-author, Omar Reza. The angle of this book is from a school counseling perspective due to how this drug had or continues to impact the lives of so many people in a negative way. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against people using marijuana in a controlled responsible manner. I am advocating for the youth or mis-informed people of the dangers that it can create when they are not fully aware of all the risks involved.
Blazing eyes is an exciting story about a little brother’s love expressed in a way that highlights how a middle school student can find help for what can seem like a helpless cause. It all starts with relationship building. Mr. Reza, the school counselor at this particular middle school, had established trust with a student who then shared that information with his best friend Josh who worked up the courage to go and ask for help for his brother Jimmy. Jimmy was starting to show the exact signs that the counseling team had talked about during an assembly about the Dangers of Drugs. It baffles me to this day that we have a tough stance on drugs, a war on drugs, and we continue to hear about the horrors of addiction. Life is gift and our goal is to empower people/the youth especially, to make empowerment choices for themselves.
Here’s a little passage from Chapter 3- Chapter 3
SHOULD I ASK MY COUNSELOR?
The next day at school Josh was feeling anxious. The only thing on his mind was the concern for his brother.
“Josh!” a voice yelled startling Josh out from his daydream.
“What’s the answer?” asked the teacher.
Josh was stumped. He had been thinking so much about his brother that he was caught off guard and didn’t know the answer to the teacher’s question.
Josh had always been quick on his feet so he answered, “16!”
“Good guess,” said the teacher. “The answer is actually 17.”
Josh felt relieved. The last thing he needed that day was to get sent to the office and have to worry his mom with another problem from school.
After class was over, Gilbert searched Josh out and walked over to him. They both gave each other a hand slap and fist pump like they normally did and started walking together to their next class.
“What up bro, how you feeling today?” asked Gilbert with concern. “Have you talked to the counselor yet?”
“No,” Josh responded. “I haven’t yet. I thought that maybe I would just forget all about it. I’ll just fix this by myself.”
“What?!” said Gilbert loudly. “Mr. Reza’s a cool counselor. He can help you with anything. You remember that time when my cousin Bobby died?”
“Ya, I remember,” responded Josh.
“Well, I was real sad because I had grown up with him and I missed him a lot,” Gilbert continued. “I didn’t really know who to talk to about it, and since you were sick that day I thought I’d go talk to Mr. Reza. We talked about all the things that were bothering me, and we even talked about sports. At the end of our talk, I felt a lot better because he helped me focus on other things and not just Bobby.”
Blazing Eyes became a very passionate project for us because we knew that if we could reach one person, it may make a significant difference in their lives. Keep in mind that most of the stories that we write about are told from the real life experiences that we encountered and were privileged to help with. In this case, Jimmy does get the help that he needs, but you have got to read the story at https://www.amazon.com/Blazing-Eyes-Empowerment-Youth-Book-ebook/dp/B00CJD1000/ref=sr_1_2_nodl?ie=UTF8&qid=1432048252&sr=8-2&keywords=blazing+eyes+ebook . We promise that its a fun and quick read, especially for youth that are looking for books that they can relate to and it may even empower them to change their lives in a positive manner.
Ten percent of the proceeds that we raise, are going to rehabilitation programs that are in the trenches helping our youth to overcome the disease of addiction. Please join us in this life changing cause by downloading this book for only $3.99 on Amazon. You too will be helping youth to become their own Super Heroes.
