What keeps us tossing and turning all night long when all you want to do is sleep! Grrrr- you try everything, even drinking a hot cup of milk, counting sheep, calling your best friend, going out for a walk, reading a book, finishing a puzzle, eating something light, writing in your journal, going for a swim, getting a teddy bear, taking a warm shower, changing your pajamas, a prayer, turning on some soft music, yoga, but yet nothing seems to work! What has got us all wound up that we just can't wind down?
Did we drink coffee too late, eat too much too late, over exert ourselves, take medication or vitamins that energized you too much, have an argument with a friend, wishing you could have done this or that, said something you regret, or maybe just worried about where your life is going? It could possibly be a combination of one of these, or it could be totally something else. But whatever it is, it has to start and end with you! In other words, no one else can sleep for us. We have to figure out or ride out whatever it is that is keeping us tossing and turning before we end up going nuts. What kind of person are you in the morning with little to no sleep? Everybody better watch out! Here comes
Our state of mind is the key element to having restful and peaceful nights! We usually internalize so many things during the day that there are days that we can't blow off or vent the excitement, anger, sorrow, or fear that we experienced. There have been times where I've been given some news either negative or positive that has kept me tossing and turning all night long because I run a million scenarios about that information in my mind. We humans are very good at magnifying something that we feel can have extreme or dire consequences about something that we might not even have control over.
Is there anything that we can do to have peaceful restful sleep? Of course there is, here are couple of things that have helped me and many other people get well deserves and needed sleep-
Meditate for about 10 to 30 minutes in the morning and night (get in tune with your inner self and find the tranquility in being still and quiet). If at first you find that you can't quiet your thoughts, that's ok, just notice what those thoughts are and release them, but don't give up! Remember that You are the observer of your thoughts- you can choose to think about them in any way shape or form. Turn your thoughts into flowers, clouds, cotton candy, etc. Your ultimate goal is to get in tune with your energy source that gives you unlimited power and potential! You can direct your mind to any need that you want to fulfill by learning to harness this amazing power within you! Each time you meditate, you give yourself a gift of Love and life back to yourself- a sort of spiritual cleansing. Clearing out any thoughts that may keep you tossing and turning all night long! Meditation is very easy to do, but also one of the hardest things to bring yourself to do too! Thirty days or more my friends- I urge you to invest your time and energy into yourself!
