Hi MaxPower 2U nation! Today we want to discuss fashion and it how affects your life. But more important still, whether it runs it or not.
Most of us, since we were born, have worn what is considered brand label clothing. And though there are some that have not or seldom do, it is a past time as old as baseball. From osh-kosh to Nike and from old navy to Calvin Klein, most of us have worn a brand name piece of clothing at some point in our lives.
When you are a baby, infant and small child, you pay no attention to this detail as your days are geared toward running around or eating ice cream. Once we all grow up a little bit, we start to see and experience clothes in a very distinct way. Suddenly, what you wear and what the brand name is becomes a focal point. No longer do you wear clothes for warmth, necessity or leisure, now you wear them for status and showing off.
As you start to grow older, you start to notice the importance people place on the clothes and brands they wear, which is then reinforced through television commercials and other advertising. What is usually then the case, is that you too start to place a greater emphasis, importance and need for what you consider to be fancier and better clothes-for no other reason than to feed your ego.
Don't get us wrong, we too here at MaxPower 2U enjoy wearing certain brand name clothing, but in no way is it a high priority for us to own or wear those brands.
The question is, do you? Are you someone who must wear certain brand name clothing to feel fulfilled, or are you someone that wears brand names at times, but in no way need to wear them for any other purpose than to clothe yourself?
Are you someone that will go out of your way to have the latest fashion, or are you someone that simply wears what feels comfortable?
Does your entire outfit have to be the same brand name, or do you just wear what feels good and matches the best you can?
And lastly, does your closet tell the story of someone who is obsessed with fashion, or does your closet tell the story of a person who is not a slave to fashion, but also not necessarily a fashion nightmare?
What side of fashion do you fall on?
If you place a great emphasis on fashion, then you are not living a life that is geared toward achieving your MaxPotential!
However, if you live life more for the experiences and the people rather than what you are wearing, then you are living a life more suited to that of a MaxPower person.
When you place more emphasis on your clothes and fashion, you take time away from what should be your primary goal-self improvement.
Being a slave to magazines and tv shows that tell you that the only way to be accepted or be someone of importance is by wearing a certain brand name piece of clothing, is only leading you astray. We aren't trying to communicate that you get rid of all of your brand name clothes and rush over to second hand stores. What we are trying to communicate is that you remind yourself that the main purpose of clothing is to clothe you, not show off to others and play the status game.
The next time you go clothes shopping, remember that the brand name you buy will not make you more liked or popular with others. It will not make you a better person-will still be you!
When you go shopping for clothes, your main objective should be what you can afford and what you feel comfortable in. If that sometimes means buying a brand name piece of clothing once in while then so be it. Just don't it let be your main goal. Don't let it become your sole drive and your purpose.
Remember, you are already good enough and don't require pieces of fabric to demonstrate what a great person you are inside and out. Clothes will never have the ability to show how extremely skilled and talented you are-only your mind can.
So go ahead and buy brand names, just don't hide behind them and use them to demonstrate your value to the world. They will fade in time, but the joy that you bring to peoples lives will not.
With that said,
"Put a little MaxPower in your life!"
