Who do you think of when you hear the word friend? Is it someone that you recently met or is it someone you have known for a very long time? Can it be both? It's a natural form of medication. Yes, our friends can easily reduce stress and anxiety, two of the worst deadly killers.
We watched a documentary on 60 minutes about an uncanny-unthinkable friendship between two unlikely people. It was a story about a Navy Seal who's platoon was completely taken out and he was on the run from the enemy in Afghanistan. He had been shot twice in the leg and his back was broken, but he kept on running trying to find water. He was certain that he would die but just as he had fallen into a waterfall, a couple of villagers surrounded him. He didn't care about dying he told them as he pulled the pin out of the grenade to try and scare them off- but instead the villagers convinced him that they were there to help him. They took him to one of the villager's home, gave him food and water, and nursed him to health. After this, the Navy Seal made it back to America but never forgot about his new friend that saved him. He arranged for his Afghan friend to fly to America where they reunited. They saw each other like brothers- the best of friends!
