I remember when I was small and people would ask me this question! Do you? I'm sure you do because I think it's natural for adults to impose a future on small children in order to make them feel like they are working toward a worthwhile goal. This is especially true with educators! We offer a multitude of information about future opportunities for children to be aware about! This is a positive thing, although, what I wanted more than anything in the world when I was asked was to feel accepted and to be loved!
I'm sharing not for pity, but to remind adults that many children's dreams are extinguished even before they were able to dream. The simple, I want to be a fireman became too easy of an answer for me, but I never believed that I could have a future without first feeling a part of society. If I couldn't accept myself, then why would others? My dreams and goals did start to grow as more adults gave me emotional nourishment. The more I heard "Great Job! Or Way to go! Or I believe in you!" Made me want to think that I too could one day become a teacher or a coach. Those simple words of encouragement meant millions more than my ability to calculate a GPA, living in a dorm, or being part of a fraternity!
When I finally realized that I could actually choose any profession, I was determined to simply be at peace and to help others find their own. My passion to want to be anything went from just wanting to teach at school to wanting to influence the whole world! I discovered that I was already enough- and in my infinite spiritual being and awareness, I could choose to contribute to the world by reminding everyone that they are already enough and that they too will choose a profession that will allow them to express those gifts!
With that said, " Put a little MaxPower into your life!"
